why is it that, even after dating someone for a long time, the two of you still have different ways of telling each other something. and there is a certain way, for men, and women, that they express their feelings in a certain situation. eg:

breaking up. men say "i think we should start seeing other people. we won't be breaking up, it would be an open relationship!"

women say "i'm at a crucial stage in and i don't know what to do. i just don't think a relationship's right at the moment."

and why do we do this? it cushions the blow of someone coming right out and saying "i don't like you anymore, move on." - this may trigger such reactions that could be described as psychotic, or fatal attraction-esque.

so why do we bother? the partner receiving the stupid piece of information knows that it's not true - so why does the other partner spouting the line carry on? everyone knows this language - and yet no one stops speaking it.

so how about this - any comments made about this article, why don't we all try and compile a dictionary - so we can all talk relationship-ese. so any feedback containing what men say and what they mean, and women too, would be appreciated, and i will compile the dictionary, myself, and it should be consulted every time men say "i'm going down to my sister's for the weekend."
