Poetry: Little things

Of Little Things, Most Treasured

Of treasures precious to me,
I cling to the most breathtaking of all.
The awe of a newborn's crooked smile
hails the arrival of a new life.

Little eyes of innocent angels
recall heaven's glory, dim to mine.
Christ himself chastised followers
to become as these little ones.

With ten fingers, ten toes, and perfectly formed
tiny nose above your sweet rosebud mouth,
you have captured my heart with
unconditional love; baby mine, most precious.

I feel humbled by this gift,
such an exquisite, tiny treasure.
For you, at only one day old
are of all little things, most treasured.

I surrender my life; I will serve little ones
who bear the brunt of adult abuse.
For by silence I condone the heinous offenses;
by silence I join the hellish cowards.

For the love of God, for the love of a child
Let our voices be united.
My voice is one; our voices, many.
Together may we join to plead for the cause of
little things, most treasured.
