Poetry: Losing your job

by Sue Hibbetts

Round Body

Round body,

Forced to work in square hole.

"Suck it up," friends say,

"There's no jobs out there - make yourself fit - whatever it takes!"

Full, round body

Bruised and bleeding,

Try as I might,

I never seemed to fit!

Called into the office

"You just don't fit," they said.

We're a square,

You're a round,

We don't need a round,

We need a square!

Now,

Full round body,

Dances in circles.

Part selkie, part faerie,

A writer,

A poet,

A comforter!

I created my own round hole,

Full, round body,

Round hole

Perfect fit!
