Planning the perfect girls night in

by Mali Farnsworth

Created on: March 25, 2009

Planning the perfect 'Girls' Night In' comes with acknowledging that staying home is a choice. We're not settling, no way.

You are your closest and dearest friend. Don't believe it?

Stop. Look yourself in the mirror. Take note of who brushes your teeth. Who gets you to bed at night to get the rest you need? Who snuggles your weary head on a soft pillow? Who stretches those muscles, pulls up the covers and yawns deeply filling your lungs with blessed Oxygen?

You!

That's right. You take pretty good care of you... or at least you should. After all, is there anyone besides you who opens your mouth when a delightful morsel passes beneath your nose?

No?

Of course not.

So acknowledge the relationship. Understand, too, that just like any other relationship, this one needs attention, nurturing. It's vital! Now let's go:

1) Leave the office early! If asked why, smile. If you have to answer, be honest. Explaining you need a personal holiday shows insight. What's more, it's the truth. You may just get the attention of the boss for your progressive thinking.

2) Order in - that is food. And no pizza or burgers. We're talking a finely prepared cuisine. Thai, Italian, Vegan, take your choice. Comb through the ads prior to your 'big night' so that you know what you want, and more to the point, you know where to get it!

3) Steamy shower, facial, that hot new lipstick, Dior's Addict High-Shine is the best, and your favorite up-do are a must.

4) Dress for dinner! No bathrobes allowed.

5) Forget the flats. Only high heels will do - the higher the better.

6) Look yourself in the mirror and let the compliments fly. That's not shallow, girls, it's therapy. Guaranteed, whatever you see in the mirror will not be the same in ten or twenty years so enjoy it while you've got it!

7) All intrusions, including the delivery man, are to be shunned straightaway. This is a strictly 'do not disturb' affair.

8) Play your favorite music Beetles or Beethoven, whatever moves you, then move. Dance.

9) When its time for a rest, dig out old year books, family photos, and my personal favorite, old love letters. Whatever pleasure the daily grind denies, now is the time. Your only rule - no work!

10) Take your picture via cell phone, laptop, or digital camera. Do a quick sketch if the muse strikes. But remember this day. And, before bed, go directly to your calendar and schedule that next appointment.

You're worth it!
