"Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" by Bill Martin Junior. "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" is an interesting book for children. The book is one that could possibly teach a great many things and it is quite entertaining at the same time. The book goes through several animals and people asking what they see and then the person or animal answers back to the reader on what they see.
The book helps children learn colors. The animals in the book are different colors, such as the brown bear, blue horse, yellow duck, etc. Children can reinforce the knowledge they already have on colors or simply learn them while reading this book.
The book helps children learn animals. The book has a horse, duck, bear, and other animals that help teach children about animals or remind them about what they already know about animals. Many learning lessons on animals could be branched off from the story "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?".
A discussion could be made to the students about reality. A teacher or whoever is reading the book could ask the question of whether someone might really see a blue horse, for example.
The book is full of repetition so it is easy for students to guess what the next question and the next answer might be without even being able to read text. For example, the book has the following format:" _______, _______ what do you see? I see ______ looking at me."
The illustrations in the book are nice and vivid and exciting. The book keeps the reader's attention by the wonderful illustrations. The illustrations also help someone visualize the colors and the animals or people being talked about in the story.
A teacher or parent reading the book could also discuss questions versus statements and even punctuation of a question mark and a period while reading this book.
In conclusion, this is a fun and exciting book. The book is one that is easy to follow and understand, as well as predict. The story can teach about animals, punctuation, colors, fiction versus non-fiction, etc. The illustrations are nice as well. The illustrations keep the attention of the reader. The repetition of the story also helps someone predict what could possibly be said next in the story. "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" is a book that you should definitely add to your collection if you have the means and a child who would be willing to read this wonderful book.
