How to prevent yeast infections

If you have been the victim of a yeast infection then the chances are that you will get it again. The bad news is that so many women that have one bout of yeast infections will generally then become prone to getting them but the good news is that there are quite a few ways in which you can prevent yeast infections from reoccurring.

One of the first things that you need to do when it comes to being able to prevent yeast infections is to get yourself a tub of plain natural yoghurt. The active enzymes within this natural yoghurt have been proven to effectively fight the bacteria that cause the infections and therefore eating some of this on a daily basis can massively reduce your chances of getting another infection. The other thing that you can do with this yoghurt is to smear it in the area that you get the yeast infections, so for women this could be in the vaginal area, to prevent the bacteria from forming. A lot of women tend to notice a pattern in their yeast infections, for example, before a period of other such times and therefore the latter method is perfect for maintaining the infection when you know that it is likely to occur.

Another thing that actively works to prevent yeast infections is garlic and making sure that you eat foods containing garlic on a regular basis can again help to reduce the risks of getting another infection. A clove of garlic can also work as an effective cure when it is wrapped in gauze or other light material and then inserted in the vaginal area, another preventative method that could be used when the infections occur at certain times.

One of the main reasons as to why women get yeast infections is because of their personal hygiene habits. For example, douching the vaginal area with water while in the bath or shower can upset the pH balance and therefore cause an infection as can wearing unnatural materials such as nylon or denim. Try to avoid wearing thongs and other tight garments in the crotch area and you may also notice a reduction in the amount of yeast infections that you will get.

Drinking plenty of water is something that everyone should try to do but this is especially good for women that are prone to yeast infections as it can help to flush out the bacteria. This does take a little bit of getting used to and may have you running to the toilet every five minutes at first but you will soon become accustomed to the new liquid intake and notice that the amount of yeast infections that you get are dramatically reduced.
