OK, so endless clicking through websites may seem pretty tiresome, but it is the most effective, and ultimately least boring, route to free website traffic. Consider the alternatives- posting links in forums, social networking and video-hosting sites. These methods are just as time consuming, less enjoyable and not as effective. At least with exchanging traffic you may see some interesting stuff as well, and if you analyse how many people are bookmarking your site or signing up to your list, most of them will come from traffic exchange surfing. Perhaps the best method of determining how effective this advertising method is sampling an exchange, and seeing for yourself how much attention you pay to the sites you are being credited for viewing
If you still do not feel like surfing yourself, try autosurfing, which itself is free, easy and deceptively valuable. Indeed, many people prefer autosurfing, but writing about it certainly does make for a less entertaining article. If you are an experienced surfer who has never tried it, I would implore you to try it, however. The main difference between autosurfing and manual surfing, is that manual surfing gaurantees visitors, but also means some effort on your part. Autosurfing can literally be done whilst sleeping, thus eyes are not assuredly on your site. The main purpose of autosurfing is not to get immediate viewers, but rather to get enough hits that search engines (google, yahoo, msn and the rest) take notice of your site, and place it in their listings. So Autosurfing can actually deliver the most targeted of all traffic-people who target you. Obviously, the amount of visitors this delivers can vary, depending largely on how competitive the search terms are.
You will probably want a mixture of auto and manual surfing, despite the formers unpredictability and the latter's routine-ness. Certainly, unlike with other options not designed for traffic seekers, site admins are conscious that this can be boring, so they pepper the process with games, social networking, prizes and, my personal favourite, cash. Not much money is offered for surfing, but if you can get some referrals, you can get paid good commissions on their upgrades and bought traffic. There are websites dedicated to just getting referrals for people for the purpose of getting both free credits and commission cash. Check out the website internetpioneers.co.uk, the traffic exchange page for an example of this which also includes user reviews of the best exchanges around. It will not be a disaster if you sign up to a sub-par traffic exchange, but why waste the time and exertion?
There are some negatives that you should be aware of before you start surfing. Framebreakers and popups are your worst enemy - they are banned by sites, but some get through. Hopefully, the combined power of me and all the readers of this article bombarding the admins with reports of these nasty websites from nasty people, the party will be larger and more enjoyable for all.
Here are the positives you should know: find the sites with the largest memberships, the greatest potentialities for cash earning, the best surf ratios, the shortest timers, the smoothest surfing and the most active admins. If you have a website you want to promote, do some research to find the site with the combination of these factors that best suits you, and then give it a try.
