The sourest candy in the world

by Kathleen Lynn

Sour candy is popular with a target audience that enjoys that taste. Commonly the targets for these candies are children though some adults still enjoy tasting a nice piece of sour candy. It would be hard to say which sour candy is the most sour in the entire world, but there is a candy that seems to be leading the pack in that direction.

Warheads have become one of the most talked about candies in this category. They seem to be beating out the competitors because they offer a candy so sour that at times the taster cannot distinguish what flavor the candy actually is for the sour taste on the tongue.

Additionally, eating two or more of these candies in a row can cause tongue irritations. Warheads package their candy with a warning label. Caution: Extreme sour! They also add another cautionary note about eating too much of the candy and the irritations.

They package their hard candies in multiple flavors. Each flavor has a different sour taste.

Candies that have come up against Warheads for the sour title include: sour gummy worms, sour juju fruits, sour patch kids, sweet tart shockers, and more.

Warheads seem to continue to hold the title for the most sour but perhaps not the tastiest treat. Other candies pack more flavor or sweet to mingle with the sour taste.

Another candy that is in the running with Warheads is a candy known as Toxic Waste. It comes as one can imagine, in a yellow pail designed to look like a hazardous waste bucket. It has a hazard warning label as well. Eating too much of this candy at once has been known to alter one's taste buds for three days.

This is another candy the eater should limit to one per session in order to avoid aggravating the tongue and mouth.

In Japan the sour candy most talked about is Nobel's Super Lemon. This is also available on Amazon for anyone else that has a desire to taste a sour candy bomb in their mouth. These little candies are on par with Warheads and Toxic Waste as far as sour power goes.

There are three lemon layers to this sour treat. The delight and advantage of this candy is the taste that it retains after the sour punch has evaporated. Once the sour is gone you are sucking on a lemon drop.

Some people seem to enjoy the sour bites and indeed, even crave it. Next time you are in the mood for sour, sweet candies give any of these a try but don't say you weren't warned about the extreme sour packed into each little bite!
