The sisterhood is back for their next adventure. Yes, this is the second book of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. After I've read the book and seen the movie version, I just can't wait to see what happened to the four girls. And it was definitely worth the wait.
The magic of the pants is still there. Although the pants main focus is to link them each other during this summer, the focus this time is not just finding the pants, making some rituals, doodling what happened to their lives in that pants but also this time, their adventure dwell in much deeper subjects: family, reconciliations, forgiveness, break-up, and death.
This is the second summer that the sisterhood will spend it apart from each other. Tibby Rollins, who had always loved filming will be spending her summer in a film camp. Bridget Vreeland who originally planned to stay home decided to look for her grandmother in Alabama. Lena Kaligaris found a summer job that she did not come to like. Carmen Lowell gets bratty as she is faced with another family issue, her mom finding a new boyfriend. But before they go on with their individual summer escapades, they met first and made the now traditional "Traveling-Pants" ritual. And the pants is the sole witness again of the bond of this sisterhood.
I definitely like this better than the first book. This time, my most loved stories are that of Bridget and Lena. If you had read the first book, Bridget's story was concentrated on her being the apple of the eye of most men but this time, a different side of her was shown...her love for her grandmother. And I actually like Greta (her grandma). She's a very cool grandma.
Eversince the first book, Lena's story had always been a favorite. It is not because I could identify with her. For one thing, I don't know how to paint like her and I don't think I'd be at par with her character description if we'd talk about physical attributes. But her story more or less would remind us of our first love. And this time, it's all about the story of her first heartbreak. And that is also one of the things we definitely need to go through in life.
I like the way Ann Brashare writes. Although this book's target audience are teenagers or young adults, I've always learned to love it. There's just the right blend of romance, comedy and drama. Maybe because all of us had been on that stage. Even the author had her teenage years. And this is another book that will always help us remember one of the best time of our lives: our teenage years.
