If you use Windows software every day then, like the majority of PC users out there, you probably don't give it much thought. You might use Word for writing letters, or play your music using Windows Media Player but that's probably about as far as it goes. After all, it was probably already installed on your PC when you bought it &, when you need to use it, the right program probably just runs automatically.
The longer you own & use a PC however, the more likely it is that you will come across something you don't know how to do &, when that happens, you will need a bit of help.
So where should you go to get it?
Well, the inbuilt help system is one good place to start but, as many people soon realize, it isn't always as helpful as it's name suggests. Yes, there are some step-by-step tutorial instructions in there & yes, they are very good. However, they are not available for every single task you need to do & the ones that are there can difficult to find unless you already know exactly what you are looking for - which means it's fairly useless to a new user.
So where else can you look?
Well, they do say Google is your friend & it is true that a quick Google search will give you endless possibilities. You'll find lots of sites that promise to tell you everything you could ever want to know about windows software - but there always seem to be a catch. Some of them seem only too happy to help but only as long as you are happy to pay handsomely for the privilege. Others offer their help for free but, on closer inspection, appear to be written in a foreign language because they assume you already have a level of knowledge that is way beyond you.
All of which means that unless you have the patience of a saint, or possibly the stubbornness of a goat, it's unlikely you'll find what you're looking for any time soon &, after wading through so many useless sites, you could easily start to think that the help you need doesn't exist or, at least, that you aren't going to get it for free.
However, despite what the subscription help sites would have you believe, there are lots of sites out there that are genuine & where you can find good quality, easy-to-follow FREE help for all sorts of Windows software.
So, before you hand over any money for the information you need - or drive yourself insane trying to find the proverbial needle in that haystack of search results - you might want to check out some, if not all of the following links;
