The boomerang kids

To determine if their babies are ready to leave home the eagle releases the young bird. If he flies then he is ready, if he falls to the ground then the eagle knows the little one is not ready to leave the nest. the eagle never release their young until they are ready to fly on their own.

There is no test or method that can be used to determine when it is the right time for kids to leave home. Children like a boomerang can fall into two categories. There are those who will return and those who never will. In spite of the worsening economy the trend in North America is that the number of kids returning home is decreasing. However, parents cannot determine which type their children will be, and have to prepare themselves for whatever the outcome.

The main reason for kids returning home is financial. To better prepare them for leaving home and ensuring that they can sustain themselves, parents will have to equip their children with useful life tools.

These are a few useful tips:

Teach children to manage money at an early age

o Instead of giving a child an allowance, assign them chores and pay them only when they are completed

o Encourage kids to save a portion of any money they receive

o If your kids wish to purchase an item, encourage them to save a portion and you provide the rest

When the kids have started working let them contribute to paying some of the bills.

If things are a little tight financially and you have to make adjustments in your spending, do not exclude the children. Get them involved, this will prepare them to handle similar situations when they leave home.

When kids return home this will require adjustments on the part of the parents and the kids. Parents need to remember that the child who left home is now returning as an adult. They have been making their own decisions, and have gotten accustomed to doing things their way. The children also need to understand that there are not in their own home, and there are rules and boundaries that they must adhere to.

It is amazing how resilient trees are. The most beautiful of tree in spring will take on an array of colours in the fall. However when the onslaught of winter takes effect, these same trees appears dead. With the dawn of spring these trees that once seemed dead have now taken on new life. This is achieved because the trees were able to survive on the nourishment they gathered prior to winter.

As nature provides for the tree, the parent responsibility to the child is to ensure that they have what is required to take them through the "winter" of their life, and be able to recover when this period is over. The home should not be a permanent abode for kids, but should be like a like a service station. It should be the source for a refill.
