The computer of the future will be a computer that will work by itself without user intervention, or at least major user intervention.
For example, imagine you want to write a letter to someone. You just say the computer what you want to say to that person in a very brief sentence, and then the computer with the history it has from previous messages will write the message in the right form, in the right tone and to the right person and will do it much better than you ever could do that.
This is the future of software in my opinion.
What will we need to do in order to have such software you will need to have very very very powerful hardware that could process all the information needed to make very tough decisions about human nature and human interaction.
Like in the terminator movie that only the super advanced processor made the terminator possible. The processors we have today are simply nor fast enough nor smart enough. They are just machines that know very basic things. Much like an animal inteligence.
We still have a lot to learn with our brain itself in order to do such machine. For example, the more we learn about our own brain, the more we learn about how it works, the less we actually know, because it's just way too complex for we to understand.
Will ever come a time when we finally will figure out how to make a processor as smart as our own brain that doesn't age? Yeah sure. The way the brain works might be ultra complex, but it sure follow a certain rules or set of rules. You touch something hot, the brain gets teh message from the nerve senses, sends the message to hurt and the feel to remove the hand from the hot thing, then the sense of relief will come. Once we are able to do this in a machine, we will have human inteligence on it.
Only afgter developing a super advanced hardware we will ever be able to develop super advanced software. As you know, the development of software is always dependent on the development of the hardware. The more and the better and the faster the hardware is, the better the software will get because of all the possible things that the hardware makes for the software.
One thing that the computer will make for sure in the future is faster computers. Imagine a computer that designs all by itself a faster, a better and more accurate computer and names it X-120. Then the X-120 will develop an even better and faster computer called x-140. Then the x-140 will make teh x-180 and so one.
This is how human and animal reproduction works. Each one of us gives birth to someone better than ourselves because of ADN evolution.
