Did you know that an average person can spend a total of two weeks in a year in his or her bathroom? This is enough reason to keep your bathroom spic and span. More than keeping it hygienically fresh, you can also do extra decors to make your bathroom a conducive, especially for those long hot baths. Remodeling is not that complicated, particularly if you follow these easy steps.
Probably the best and cheapest way to redecorate your bathroom is organizing and simply removing clutter. Do not put too much stuff in your bathroom. Toiletries, shower and cleaning supplies are the quintessential items found in your bathroom. Some would keep make-up and first aid supplies in bathroom cabinets and drawers. Get rid of empty bottles, tubes and containers. They just add to the mess and pick-up germs and bacteria. Colorful storage boxes can de-clutter your bathroom and at the same time act as instant decors. At the same time, towels, aside from their use can also be an interior decoration for your bathroom. Creatively stack-up towels on a rack or put them in a wicker basket, for a natural look.
When you speak of decorating your bathroom, color combination comes into play. Painting your bathroom should give it an instant make-over, too. Head on to your local paint store to get some swatches, and see how each shade and tone look on your bathroom. When choosing a color, make sure that it would look good anytime of the day. There are those colors which might have a dramatic effect during daytime but is a drab at night. You can also decide on the color by choosing a theme for your bathroom. Are you gunning for a natural theme or modern look, perhaps?
Depending on the over-all theme that you have for your bathroom, the colors of your tiles, walls, accessories, and even shower curtains should be complimentary.
Decorative soap dishes, that match toothbrush holders, trash bins and your laundry hamper can instantly create a synergy in the room. When picking shower curtains and bath mats, you should also consider how they will compliment your bathroom theme.
You may want to spend a little extra on a good quality and durable shower curtain. Aside from its decorative look, its functional purpose should be considered. The last thing your clean bathroom needs is a mold and mildew stricken shower curtain. So make sure to clean and disinfect your shower curtains regularly.
Rugs and mats are also bathroom mainstays that can help pull the room together. Same principle with shower curtains, aside from aesthetic effect, rugs and mats should be equally durable.
To soften the look of the bathroom, there are some indoor plants that you can bring in. While most indoor plants are low maintenance and thrive on little lighting, make sure that the plants are strategically placed in a spot where it can continue growing. Tropical plants and specific herbs can do.
There would be some time that guests would see and use your bathroom. Add more interest to your bathroom by hanging paintings, framed pictures and other artworks. Choose a design that will work with the colors and designs that you already have in your bathroom.
Lastly, if you have some money to spare, you can install new lighting that would further create a particular mood that you want for your bathroom. Setup a brighter lighting around your vanity mirror, and you'll be surprised on the big effect this little effort can do. More complicated lighting might entail getting an electrician's help, so take this into consideration when coming up with your budget.
Decorating your bathroom can easily give a new life to an old bathroom. All it takes is simple planning and a lot of creativity.
