In the past century we have seen many changes in the way the people of America think. We have gone from a Christian nation, where men are men and women are women to denying our unborn children their right to breathe, and denying our living children the right to decide whether or not they want to pray in school. We have gone from a country that stepped up to face the responsibility of beating back the giants that tried to enslave and annihilate us, (i.e. Hitler, Japan and the Great Depression) without complaining, knowing that if we did not face up to it we would not be free anymore.
Now we say war for any reason is wrong, and are rewriting the history books to erase any sign that war could be a right action.
We murder our unborn, calling it "choice"; ignoring the fact that the choice was made a month or more before. Considering that child to be nothing more than matter to be rid if instead of a beating heart that could one day change the world; or just right someone's world with a smile or laugh.
We tell our children they evolved from apes attributing the things that make them unique: such as their ability to choose, to feel, to think, and to have compassion for another being; to chance.
We have lost our moral compass and with it any sense of the absolutes of right and wrong, good and evil and justice.
The change in American thinking came when the nation as a whole turned their back on God. We have gone from saying "Jesus is Lord" in our homes and workplaces to refusing him entrance to our thoughts, our schools and our governmental decisions.
The standard for right and wrong is no longer in place over any aspect of our lives.
And we wonder why our children are turning to drugs and alcohol. They have an innate sense that there are absolutes but have been taught that whatever feels good is right. The high from drugs feels right, so it must be good; the invincibility they feel when they are drunk feels good so it must be good to be drunk. They are then taught to blame others when they are in an auto accident that is certainly their fault; so instead of facing the music, they blame the car maker or the alcohol brewery and do not learn anything.
They know that there is a problem with this country, but there is no one stepping up to teach them that there are repercussions, that every action has a reaction, because there is no one brave enough to go against the grain of today's society and say that there are absolutes, there is such a thing as this is right and this is wrong no matter what one might think: and the conscience they ignore, that tells them they were wrong; calling it evil because it tells them what they don't want to hear.
If we want our grandchildren to be able to make their own decisions, we must bring back the standard of right and wrong, the keeper of the conscience and work to further the truth.
