Your skull is not as strong as you think it is. It needs protection. This is why motorcyclists should always wear helmets. Most motorcyclists take a tumble at some point in their riding experience. Not necessarily a high speed crash, but sometimes just a gentle topple from the bike due to poor road surfaces, or when riding during bad weather. Because you are in a seated position you cannot use the body's protective reactions as well as you could if you fell over while walking. This means your head is more likely to have an impact on the road. If your head is not protected, you run the risk of concussion or worse.

The wearing of a helmet is common sense really, although many choose not to because they feel it is limiting their riding experience or simply because it is not fashionable. Sometimes this choice means you are having your fashion accessories chosen for you by a family member at a funeral directors. This sounds extreme, but, without a helmet the rider really is risking death. It is not brave nor is it sensible.

There is such a huge choice of motorcycle helmets available, to suit all types of riding, from the full face helmet, to the skeletal cruising styles. As long as the helmet you choose has the right safety approval markings, all will provide a degree of protection. Although the full face crash helmet does provide the most protection, as lighter helmets with less coverage leave your face exposed to the road surface when it meets it.

A good choice of crash helmet for the average rider is the Shoi Multitec. It provides full face protection, but has a flip facility so that you do not have to remove the helmet if your Country requires the removal of full face crash helmets when purchasing things at shops and garages. Details of this excellent crash helmet can be found here http://www.shoei-europe.com/uk/products/MULTITEC . This helmet carries the endorsement of the writer.

It is also very important that you choose a crash helmet that fits well as an ill fitting helmet will not protect the rider as well and in fact could make injury worse. This is particularly true of a helmet that because it is too large it provides a lower pivot point at the base of the neck.

Many spend a great deal of money on their motor bike, in customising it, and purchasing of accessories. It seems a great shame that the same attitude is sometimes not carried on to the careful purchase of a good quality crash helmet.
