After reading this book, I only get to realize one thing: this is how real friendship should be.
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is a story of four girls: Carmen, Lena, Bridget and Tibby, whose lives had been destined to be together since birth. I know that sounds a little too much but it's true. Their moms were "classmates" during their aerobics classes. And they are taking these aerobics exercises because all of them are pregnant and yes, they are bearing all these four girls. And for sixteen years these four girls had spend their lives together. Now the girls is faced with their first ever separation, the first summer that they'd be separated. Carmen will spend her summer with her Father in South Carolina. Bridget (better known as Bee) is having some sports camp in Baja. Lena is spending her summer in Greece with her grand parents. And Tibby is the only one left home for work in a local drug store. But with a little magical twist, they found a way to communicate, they found another means of making sure that they won't forget each other: The Pants.
So what's so magical about this pants? It fits them all. All right. That's really possible right? I mean, we all see these garments with labels as "free size" or "one size fits them all". But when I mean fit, it was a perfect fit. Picture this, Tibby is a little skinny, Lena is slender, Bee is a little buff cause she's sporty, and Carmen is the turning point. She's a little fat. I mean just chubby. So when the pants fit all of them, they decided that they will make sure that they will take turns in wearing the pants. And they made some rules with the most important rule as: Pants = Love. And so begun the individual summer adventure of each girl with a little help from the pants.
This book presents different topics: from love, death and of course friendship. And personally, I get to identify one trait from each of the character and I guess that's the magic of this book. Carmen Lowell is the extra sensitive, extra caring but bad tempered friend. Tibby Tomko-Rollins is your rebel girl but secretly soft-hearted person. Bridget Vreeland is your sporty, lively but still emotional girl. Lena Kaligaris is the shy, artistic and beautiful girl. Each character is unique that you can't help but relate yourself to each character's experience.
I was actually amazed when I learned that this is the first ever novel of Ann Brashares. And I became an fan instantly. And this book made me thankful of the sisterhood that I have in real life.
