Should our politicians be held to a higher moral standard?

Politicians, whether elected or appointed, are public figures. Ideally, people would look up to these civil servants, with the hope that politicians would represent their best interests.

Based on their position of power and access to information, should politicians be held to a higher moral standard? With one headline after another showing various legal violations by today's politicians, the best we can hope for is that they be held to some form of moral standard.

Sadly, we live in a society in which people have forgotten to stand up for what is right. They far too often tend to be concerned with their own individual agendas. It is definitely a world gone awry, and we need to demand that our politicians follow the rules and strive for a sense of honest and right decisions and actions.

If our politicians do not start standing up for moral decency again, our society will only become more corrupt. We must demand that our leaders take a stand, and not fear the truth or conviction.

Otherwise, as the global economy flounders and as worldwide violence increases, the downward spiral will continue. Politicians need to use their power in a way that is beneficial. They must start telling the truth. They must start backing up their words through their actions.

If only a few people will start standing up for what is right, then they will start to make a stand. People are frustrated right now and times are tough.

It is during tough times, though, that we most need people to be morally convicted, especially our politicians. Society needs to believe that there are people out there who are trying to come up with some solutions to the mess we are in.

There is far too much to lose if politicians do not give up their agendas, and start seeking what is right. They need to be willing to lose a bit of popularity to do so. They need to be strong enough not to be afraid to shout that voice of reason.

Increasingly, people are pointing fingers and blaming others. Politicians are not passing vetting processes for positions, as they have too many things to hide.

The world is chaotic right now, and people are looking for leaders and for answers. Let's hope that there are some politicians out there who will step up to the plate and start speaking up for what is moral.

Everything is not okay. Faith is not something of which to be ashamed. Right and wrong do exist. Integrity is something to be cherished. And, politicians need to take a moral stand.
