Internet writer's guide to marketing your Helium articles on the web

by Gordon Hamilton

There are a great many writers on Helium who spend quite some considerable time ensuring that each article which they write is absolutely perfect, just the way they want it, prior to publishing it. This is of course an admirable trait and a desirable one but equally many of those same writers will publish said article and leave to sit on the Helium site unattended for all eternity, in the fervent hope that it will prove successful and earn them some passive income in the form of page view revenue.

While it is possible that the writer will earn some revenue from their article in the short term, the likelihood is that the page views will dry up if the article is not in some way promoted elsewhere on the Internet. As the article becomes older, it will essentially become almost "stale" in the eyes of Google and will consequently slip down the page rankings. In order to prevent this from happening, we therefore have to promote the article in all instances wherever else we have a presence on the Web.

It is likely that as a Helium writer, most writers will also have at least one other form of website or blog. Where possible, links should be included on said websites or blogs to the writer's Helium articles. There are several ways in which this can be done and the first and perhaps easiest is to use the RSS facility from the writer's "About Me" page. This allows links to their most recent postings to appear on their website or blog for the visitors to same to click upon and view.

It may also be an idea for the Helium writer to specifically begin a new blog or such as a Squidoo lens or Hub Page, dedicated to charting their work on Helium. They may wish to approach it from the point of view of topic - always a good idea - in that they build a site for, for example, the cooking articles they write, one for the travel articles they write, and so on. This means that each page is dedicated to a particular topic and will therefore be more appealing in the eyes of the search engines.

If the writer has a presence on a social networking site such as MySpace, they can also include their RSS feed here or start a MySpace blog to link to their articles. They may also wish to utilise bookmarking sites such as Delicious but should be careful to include links to a lot of other sites, simply as opposed to linking purely to their Helium articles.

These are just a few ideas for writers for scattering links to Helium articles around the Web. The more you have, the better, but be careful never to such as spam forums or any other form of submission sites or you are likely to get yourself banned and create a bad reputation for Helium and other Helium writers. Be sensible but creative and see how many different ways you can come up with of driving traffic to your pages and generating revenue in the process.
