Do animals have a sense of humor? You might as well ask do animals have feelings and emotions? Do animals get scared, angry, happy, sad, excited? Hmmmmmmm, the answer is yes to all of these.

I smile as I fondly remember the many pets I have had throughout the years. Especially when I think of how they have each shown their individual sense of humor.

When I was a kid my family had three family pets; one dog, named Al and two cats. One of the cats, a gray and white tiger named Amos was a roaming Tom who was usually out and about. The other cat was an orange and white tiger named Sue (long story on the name). Sue was actually a neutered male who mostly stayed in the house. He and the dog got along well. They would snuggle up together when they thought no humans could see them. BUT whenever one of us noticed, the cat would jump up and run off and give us this look like "OH NO I don't like that dog."

Our big orange cat had a favorite spot to sit on while in the house. It was a small antique writing table which was just taller then the dog when he stood up. Sue would sit there in wait for Al to walk by. When he did the cat would usually take a playful swipe at the dog's tail, then look up at the ceiling like "I didn't do nothing.ha ha ha."

The first dog I personally owned, OK, I mean shared living space with, was a large black lab named Kozar. Kozar lived to be fourteen years old. Kozar showed every emotion that could be shown throughout his fourteen years of life. He knew when I was sad and needed him near me just to pet. He knew when I was playful and would bring me his toys to play. He just knew.

Kozar's sense of humor seemed to bit a bit of a smart-assed one. If any of us had fixed a snack and laid it anywhere within his reach, he would be sure to snag it. He would wait for our backs to be turned, grab it and wolf it down. When we gave him that accusing look, I swear he would shrug his shoulders as if to say "I have NO idea what you are talking about." Then he would actually smile, go lay down and let out a contented sigh.

Kozar was the neighborhood dog as well. A lot of times the neighborhood children would come to our door and ask if Kozar could come out and play. Yep, I always let him out to play with the kids. For a one hundred forty pound animal he was amazingly gentle. He would actually play hide and seek with the kids. He would hide behind a tree that would in no way actually hide his big frame. Then he would peek around the tree at them as if saying "You can't
