Why do politicians think it is their God given right to tax us until the pips squeak? OK, the law may be on their side, but right certainly isn't, and I've yet to find a tax-raising politician that believed in God..!
It's a myth put about by incompetent administrators that say that the only solution is to raise taxes - doesn't matter what the problem is, the solution is always the same! Then what happens, they go and spend our hard earned money on some pet project, and before you know it, the economy is running a deficit, and these scoundrels are so proud of it.
"Look what our great planning has brought to this wonderful country of ours - Why, we've never been so well off, and next year we're going to increase what we spend on education and getting the poor out of the poverty trap." OMG - the same old claptrap, but the worst of it is, there will always be somebody that believes it, regardless of the poor getting poorer and kids leaving school unable to read and write.
The other thing is, that this battle cry of the left, and some that have difficulty knowing where they stand, is not just incompetent financial management, for it can be heard on both sides of the Atlantic. It's almost like a disease was spreading around that demanded higher taxation as a cure. This aberration, and that's what it is, is not based on any logic, for it is similar to the cry about spending our way out of the credit crunch, and any Mother that has had to watch the purse strings will tell you, "living beyond your means is a fools game".
High taxation is what the communist countries do - not the free thinking West, but try telling that to a politician that it would kill innovation, and hope, with their worthless policies. Don't any of these people learn from history. Haven't there been enough example where a country that was taxed excessively began to die, in every sense of the word. Yet when the taxation was brought down, not only did the tax revenue increase, but the country began to got better, and prosperity was celebrated.
The state is getting too big, and it expects to do too much for us - most of which we don't want or need. They will insist on taking away our freedom of choice because they think they and their experts know all there is to know, and we, the general population, are not up to the task of living our own lives. OK, these politicians might be motivated by our welfare, but I'd rather spend my own money than have some know it all spend it for me.
Higher and higher taxation has never been the way to solve financial problems, but realistic honest policies might just do it, providing our leaders begin to understand what a balanced budget means.
