At 2:30 am I rise
With the Sand Man's fingers in my eyes
My feet recoil at the cold hard floor
I know that I will sleep no more
At 2:30 am I rose
The winter chill nipping at my toes
I looked outside and scowled at the moon
Praying I would fall be asleep soon
At 2:30 am I despair
I watch my breath upon the air
I chance a look at my stupid clock
It sings aloud a ticking mock
At 2:30 am I cry
I cannot sleep and wonder why
I shake and turn and over I roll
Waiting for time to take its toll
At 2:30 am I scream
Caught up in yet one more bad dream
Where I can never get to sleep
Counting endlessly boring, fluffy sheep

How do you find poetry at 2:30 AM?
in the arms of a lover
in the laugh of a friend
in the breath of a moment
sipping a cup
Awake at 2.30am
With a poem in my head
Do I go back and dream?
Forget the poem
Confine it forever to oblivion?
Or do I turn
At 2:30 A.M.
It's almost time;
My pains are close.
I'm ready now-
And here he comes!
(Twenty-something years
Lying in bed
The glow-in-the-dark stars
Hanging from the ceiling
Toss and turn
Without success
No sleep
Turn to the right
