Politicians are expected to uphold their moral code of ethics more seriously than average working class citizens. I measure moral ethics on two levels. On the first level, there is right and there is wrong; universal agreement is reached when everyone recognizes the difference between black and white. On the second level, there is shades of gray; some acts of behavior and decision making are supported and rejected.
The Job performance of executive branch employees is judged on higher moral ethical standards than nongovernmental employees. Civil servants are responsible for serving voters who were responsible for electing them to office and people who ignored them at the poles. We need to understand the moral ethical standards written by the United State Government.
The executive branch of our government expects their employees to earn public trust and support. Employees must commit themselves to unwavering loyalty to the constitution, respects its laws and regulations, and uphold the principles of moral ethics. Achieving personal gain can never be a motive while serving office. All private organizations and individuals must be treated equal.
Political leaders are elected by people all over the world. In France, Lascoumes and Bezes developed standards of criteria similar to our own United States Government. There are key disciplinary steps that government officials must adhere to: "absence of self-interest, exemplary behavior, impartiality, effectiveness, proximity, and serving Collective interest."
Lascoumes and Bezes fear that France might become corrupt like Italy, a government controlled by special interest and the mafia. Wealthy bureaucrats often have a negative affect on government. Our government system mirrors France in several aspects. The media exposes good political candidates and bad ones. Auditors investigate the job performance of politicians, and they monitor how governments funds are used. In municipal elections, political parties plan and execute smear campaigns; an act that veers away from moral ethical standards of either party. The media exposes poor public service and corruption scandals.
We are horrified about the political corruption that is exposed by our national news. Misusing government funds burden the failure of our struggling economy. Political corruption isn't only a contemporary problem. William "Boss" Tweed served in the U.S. Representatives, in 1873, and the New York Senate, in 1867. He was convicted in 1873, for stealing one billion
