Success can vary from person to person. A man with a happy, healthy family with an average salary considers himself to be successful. However, a multi-millionaire considers himself to be more successful. Which man is correct? Both. When pushing your child to succeed, factor in what truly makes them happy. Success is useless unless you can be content with where you are and where you're going.

~Understand Your Child's Limits

Every child has activities and talents they excel at. For each strength you child has, there is a weakness. Focus on your child's strengths. Encourage them to do their best where they're weakest. No matter, remember your child can only do so much.
If you push too hard, their strengths may very well become weaknesses.

Your child will enjoy being successful. If you notice your child starting to lose interest, or even hating an activity or subject, it's a sign to back away. You may be pushing your child past their limits. As said before, success is only success if you enjoy it.

~Separate Your Life and Your Child's

Many parents try to live their lives through their children. A parent's responsibility is to help their child have the best life possible. Part of having a wonderful life means letting the child live the life they want.
Simply because you were good at sports, doesn't mean your child will be. Even if they are good at sports, they may not enjoy it.

Introduce your child to things you like, but only push them when you see they truly want to succeed.
Pushing a child towards your goals will only discourage them from their own goals.

~Understand Your Child's Goals

Talk to your child.
Ask them what they want out of life.
The answers will vary depending on age, but it's still important to ask. Talk to them about their future at least once a year. This will give you insight as to what areas your child needs to work on.

You can use your child's goals to help them in areas they struggle with as well. This is a great time to start pushing them to do their best. For instance, if a child struggles with math, but wants to be an engineer, encourage them to work harder. This doesn't mean preaching to them, but instead, help them with homework, find a tutor, or talk with their teachers to see what else you can do to help.

~Be Happy With Their Best

Parents should always push their children to succeed. Parents can also tell the difference between lazy and hard work. If a child is working hard and doing their best, be proud of them. Encourage them to keep up the hard work. Praise in itself is a major push towards to success. If you praise them when they work hard, no matter what the result, you increase their confidence. Confidence will help them succeed in all areas of their lives.

If a child is lazy, then it's time to put on the pressure. Parents should push children harder to make them see how important success really is. If you know their goals and interests, use these to push them towards success. Once again, push and encourage, not preach and yell.

Every child can be successful. It's a parent's responsibility to support their children in their endeavors.
Pushing a child towards success means doing what you can to make sure your child does their absolute best and is happy with the results of all their hard work.
