is happening. Now, if you generally have a long cycle (30 or more days) this period of dryness will be perhaps a week long. If you have short, or average cycles (24-28 days) than the dryness will be maybe only a few days.
Then you'll start to notice a less-dry' feeling, maybe a little yellow staining. Some people use the word damp, some say sticky. It's the start of your cervix producing some fluids that could later help you get pregnant.
Don't just rely on the feeling in your vagina or on the vaginal lips. Ideally, when you visit the little girl's room you should check with a finger; just a quick swipe across your vagina from back to front. (Note: Everyone always says to wipe from front to back after a bowel movement and this is true. When I say back to front to check for cervical fluid, only start at the vagina, not as far back as the rectum).
Here is when some women start thinking this is all very gross. What can I say? Buck up. Don't think that way. These are the natural signs God gave us to be aware of our fertility. Women have been taking notice of this since Eve. If you're really finicky, use a bit a toilet paper, though I tell you, it's just not as effective.
At first, you should get a sticky, creamy sort of feeling between your fingers, like peanut butter. As the days go by, it'll have more and more water content so it'll feel wetter and thinner and likely become clearer.
The jackpot is when it starts to stretch between your fingers. This is referred to as egg white' consistency (you can guess why) or another term is spinnbarkeit" from the German.
A good idea is to mark these CF transitions on your chart. It's so easy to forget, especially if you leave it until the end of the day to write it down.
The third natural sign you can detect in your reproductive cycle is cervical placement. .
If you have problems just checking your CF, than you really might have difficulties with this one. But again, this is not a new technique. Women have been relying on this for centuries.
Right after your period, your cervix is rather low in your vagina, firm and the opening is at its' most closed position. If you were to insert a finger in your vagina, you'd likely feel it and it would feel something like the tip of your nose if you have not had any children. If you've already got rugrats running around, your cervix may be softer and more relaxed.
As the days pass, and you are noticing more CF, your cervix will be growing softer and lifting higher (toward your uterus). It might be more difficult to feel it with a finger, but at this stage it feels more like your chin. The position and softness of your cervix is also a sign that you are most fertile. Obviously, this is a very subjective thing and will likely take a few cycles for you to detect what are normal transitions for you. Check this once a day and add it to your chart.
These signs combined give woman a very natural, drug and latex-free tool to educate themselves on their reproductive cycle. Natural Family Planning can be just as effectively used to pursue or avoid a pregnancy. For a woman who believes that her body communicates the truths we need to live, NFP is an ideal choice.
