I believe that homosexual acts are sinful. By sinful, I mean they are against the revealed moral standard of a holy God. God specifically states in Leviticus 18:22 that "you shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination." Abomination means a morally reprehensible act; and in this context, it also means one that brings a person under the judgment and condemnation of God. This is born out in the New Testament as well, where Paul states in Romans 1:18-32 that as a result of mankind's suppression of the truth, God has given them over to uncleanness to dishonor their bodies amongst themselves through vile passions. These passions include "women exchanging the natural use for that which is against nature" and "men with men committing acts which are shameful." These actions are said to flow out of a debased mind, a mind which rejects the truth of God as revealed in nature. This is a mind which is set on worshipping the creature rather than the Creator, a mind which rejects divine things and prefers rather to pursue its own agendas and erect its own standards by focusing itself on this creation and on created things. Given this revelation, we see that homosexual acts are against the revealed will of God for mankind, that they are base in their nature and spring forth from a worship of the created order and its pleasures rather than from worship of God. Thus, at their very heart, homosexual acts would have to be considered to be sinful.
It should be noted as well that the above passage clearly states that these actions are are also unnatural. Something that is natural is something that is in accordance with the way in which the created order was designed to work. The Biblical understanding is that people were created in the image of God and thus are to represent Him. After God created mankind, "God blessed them and said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it'" (Genesis 1:28). For this reason, we are told that "a man should leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and they two shall become one flesh" (2:24). It is only as man and woman come together that other men and women are produced. This is man's only way to be fruitful and to multiply. Clearly then, the natural order is that man and woman come together and cohabitate and reproduce through their sexual intercourse.
The protest against this position is that homosexual attraction seems to come naturally to a certain percentage of the population. Men are attracted
