Baseball player profiles: Jim "Catfish" Hunter

Jim "Catfish" Hunter was one of the best pitchers that ever played in the Major League Baseball. Jim played 14 seasons in Major League Baseball. Jim played for the Kanas City/Oakland A's, then finished his career with the New York Yankees. Jim was one of 17 pitchers to pitch a no-hitter in a Major League game. Jim helped the A's to win the World Series in 1972,1973,1974. Then Jim help the Yankees to win the World Series in 1977 and 1978. Jim was the only player to win 5 World Series Championships.

In Jim's career he has put up awesome numbers. In his career he has 224 wins, 166 loses with a .574 percent win/loss record. Jim all-time Earn Run Average is 3.26. Jim has played in 500 games. Jim started 476 games. Jim has 181 complete games. Jim has 42 shot outs. Jim has no saves in his career. Jim has pitched in 3,449 innings. Jim has 2,958 hits against him. Jim has 1,248 earn runs against him. Jim has 1,380 unearned runs against him. Jim has allowed 374 homeruns. Jim has 954 base on balls. Jim struck out 2,012 batters. Jim has thrown 49 wild pitches. Jim has hit 49 batters as well. On May 13, 1965 was Jim's first game of his major league career, thats when he played for the Kanas City A's. Jim's last game was on September 17th, 1979, that was when Jim was on the Yankyees.

On May 8th, 1968 Jim would pitch a perfect game against the Minnesota Twins and beat the Twins 4-0. Jim struck out 11 batters in that game. Jim was 8 time All-Star. In 1974, Jim won the A.L. Cy young Award, and also Jim was E.R.A. leader in the A.L. In 1975, Jim led the A.L. in innings pitched and complete games. Jim has 7 15 games win in a season. Jim has 5 20 win games in a season. Jim 1 25 wins games in a season.

So you can see why Jim was an awesome player. Jim loved the game of baseball. Jim loved signing autographs before and after the game. In 1987, Jim was inducted to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame. Jim "Catfish" Hunter died at his home, after he fell off the stairs. Jim suffered with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis also known as Lou Gehrig disease in 1999 at the age of 53. Jim will missed greatly from the fans and his teammates from the A's as well as the Yankees. I remember my grandmother always talking about him. Jim Hunter was my grandmother's favorite player. My grandmother loved watching him play the game of baseball. Jim "Catfish" Hunter we all miss you. Rest In Peace.
