What to do when your computer suddenly freezes

Computers freeze a lot if they have too much data or not capable of handling the tasks which you are trying to perform. But there are a lot of things, which you can when a computer freezes.

The first thing you should do is wait for a few minutes. Sometimes the computer is just loading and it might look frozen. If nothing happens after a few minutes, you should press ctrl, delete and alt together. This will open the task manager or the options tab in Windows Vista. Once you open the task manager, you will see a list of tasks, which your computer is running. Close down all the programs by clicking on end task. This way you will reduce the amount of memory the computer is using.

Programs on the computer cause the computer to freeze. That is why ending all tasks is one of the best ways to unfreeze the computer. Another alternative is to switch off the computer through the CPU.

Switching off the computer by removing the power plug may cause you to lose some files, but it shouldn't be a major problem in most cases. After you switch off the computer, there are lot of options you can choose from. Start your computer in normal mode and it should start working normally.

Once it starts working normally, your work is not complete. You must find out what caused the computer to freeze last time you were on it. For example, my computer froze every time I tried to unzip files. Try to find out what causes your computer to freeze and delete that file if it is not a critical file. Video games often overload the video card and also cause the computer to freeze; in that case you should get a new video card or delete the video game.

Viruses and spyware can also cause the computer to freeze. Download an anti-virus and an anti-spyware and delete all viruses and spyware to clean the computer. This should solve the problem in most cases.

If you are running an old computer, then you need to add more RAM and free up some space on your hard drive to avoid future crashes. The computer cannot handle too many tasks. Even the best computers cannot handle hundreds of tasks at one time. The computer uses temporary memory to perform tasks and it is not capable of handling huge tasks at the same time, and freezes the computer.

These are some things you can do if your computer freezes. The task manager and adding more memory and a new video card are the best possible solutions. If none of these options solve your problems and your computer continues to freeze, then you might require a computer wizard to help you with the problem.
