With the advent of home computers and the internet, a home office is now more popular than ever. Put Feng Shui into practice and create a calming, stress-free working environment.
Most people spend at least seven hours a day working at a desk, be it at home or in an office, so it is essential that the design of the office is perfect. You can achieve this by creating a working environment with Feng Shui. If your office is at home, your children may even benefit from a work space to study in too.
It is essential that you get the work/life balance right, so you must ensure that your home and office do not blend into one. Feng Shui promotes a stress-free and enjoyable working environment; it can make you creative and inspired and in the long term help you succeed in your chosen career.
You will become more organized and calmer, spending less time at work and more time on the better things in life, such as socializing with family and friends.
Favorable locations for your office
Your office should be located near the front door of your house so that business visitors do not constantly traipse through your home.
Use a separate room that is dedicated to home working and is somewhere you can close the door.
A good location for a home study is the knowledge, or north-east sector of your home.
Another good location is the wealth, or south-east corner of your home.
Always avoid placing your office near the toilet.
Avoid working from your bedroom, as you should never mix work with your sleeping environment,
Ensure you office does not over look a cemetery, police station, prison or hospital or face a T-junction.
Use Feng Shui to look at energy flow, the position of your desk and chair and the arrangement of your desktop to ensure the ideal office and home office environment.
Arranging your desktop
To encourage productivity, have no clutter on or in your desk.
The desk itself should ideally be placed in the career/north sector.
Place your computer in the relationships/south-west sector.
Place the phone in the helpful friends/north-west sector.
Any reference material should be place in the knowledge-north-east sector.
A money plant or a water feature helps to boost profits and sales when placed in the wealth, or south-east sector.
For recognition, place a lamp of flowers in the fame/south sector.
Desk and chair
Choose a chair with a back that is both solid and high to properly support you.
You should never sit directly facing or in line with the door of your office.
