First dates are always difficult. You both sit opposite one another with a million thoughts running through your head. Do they like you? Do you like them? What are they thinking? Your mind goes blank, you're nervous, what do you talk about?
Breathe, this other person is in exactly the same situation as you. They are just as nervous and apprehensive. They want to create a good impression just as you do!
Conversation topics.
1. Ask them whether they are originally from the town you are in. Maybe they are, maybe they aren't, but this will usually get them engaged and will lead to another topic. If they are originally from somewhere else then you can ask about a range of things; what brought them here? If it was work, what do they do, and so on. This is often a great way to learn more about the other person.
2. Ask what kind of things they enjoy to do. They will then in time ask you the same question. Try to find common ground! If both enjoy to go hiking, maybe that's something you can potentially do together. Do you both enjoy working out, going to the movies, cooking, travel, there is bound to be something that you can potentially do on a second date.
3. Ask about where they see themselves in ten years. This can reveal a lot of information about a person. Do they know what they want in the future? Are they unsure? Do you know where you want to be in ten years? Are they passionate? What are they passionate about?
4. What is their favorite movie and why? Do they like action, romance, thriller or comedy? This again will reveal much about them. Who is their favorite actor or actress? Do you have similar interests?
5. What are they actually looking for in a relationship? This is very important because if you are on completely different pages then is it worth wasting your time? Are you looking for a long term relationship and they want a casual relationship?
6. Ask about their family. Do they have brothers or sisters? Do they live in the same town? Are they a close family? This again can reveal a lot. It will show you how important family is to them and what type of background they have come from.
Relax on your first date and get to know the other person. Try to learn as much information as you can. If you already know them a little then it makes things much easier, if you don't, then just smile and be happy this person is sitting with you on a date because they were interested in dating you also. That is half the battle.
Dating isn't easy, but it can be fun, and if all goes well then a second date will follow!
