Poetry: Appreciate your life

I Like Life

When bedroom windows glow softly with evening snow

When an old bag of chocolate chips is rediscovered melted into one, large, solid chunk

When the tingle of a new idea realized curls my toes

When I choose the fast lane to the checkout counter

When I reconnoiter the grounds of a beautiful estate

When I am called wise by those I most admire

When my well-honed kitchen knife slices tough meat like butter

When I get exactly what I asked for and what I need

When my thoughts flow onto paper like honey onto bread

When my well-guarded castle is successfully breached by a most kindly knight

When the straight and narrow is wide enough for my passions

When my dog holds my hand down with both paws and gives it a thorough licking

When I'm snowbound on a day I don't want to go anywhere

When any given electronic device does exactly what it's supposed to do

that's when I like life

    Bare foot,
    Mud between my weathered toes,
