Fun ways to display family photos

Everyone has a digital camera these days and lots of pictures on our computers. Gone are the days when people put their photos in albums and then stashed them on the shelf, only to be looked at once in a while. But who really wants to spend time looking at pictures on the computer? There are fun ways to display all of those family photos so that you and your family can enjoy them on a daily basis.

#1. Wall display of black and white photos. We often take color photos but black and white photos can look classic. Using a photo editing program, convert some of your best pictures into black and white and have them printed at a photo processing site online in a variety of sizes. Purchase simple black frames with white mattes to match the size of your pictures and mount these on a hallway wall or over your sofa in a scattered pattern. Make sure all of your frames are level, but don't put them all up in a straight line. Making a bit of a puzzle on your wall will provide interest and the black and white theme with matching frames will keep everything looking harmonious.

#2. Bulletin board displays. You can make a really fun display of photos by mounting them on a bulletin board that is covered in a fun stuffed fabric. The bulletin board can be a plain color or a funky pattern. String lines of satin ribbon in a diagonal across and then on the opposite side to make rows of diamonds. You can put pretty push pins at the point where ribbons cross to make the display really pretty. Then, just slide your photos in under the ribbons. This way, you can change your display on a weekly basis, if you like.

#3. A mantle of ornate frames. Make your fireplace mantel really come alive. Find old, ornate picture frames in gold or silver at yard sales, or purchase new ones of different shapes and sizes that will look nice together. Then, display the frames in a chunky collection on your mantle with larger photos at the back and smaller frames scattered along the front.

#4. Use your fridge. You can purchase sheets of magnetic strips at craft stores which you can mount on the back of fun family photos. Then, scatter them all over the fridge, used to hold up artwork, or just as a display themselves.

#5. Digital frames look modern. Purchase several digital picture frames in different sizes and place them around the living room on various tables. Then, using a theme for each one, load pictures that are similar, such as a family vacation on one or a wedding on another and set them up to scroll. You'll have a constant "movie" of photos that will stay interesting.

There are many things you can do with family photos besides putting them in albums. Find interesting ways to display your memories around your home and you'll relive memories everyday!
