Cool as a crisp, sunny day in December,
when the warm and teasing sun
kisses your face
and tries to ease you out of your jacket
Cool as an ice cube sliding down your throat
on a hot, lazy afternoon
and down, until it melts at the bottom
Cool as the notes rising up from the instruments,
dancing across the air to float on, over,
and out to the farthest-flung ears
of the crowd in the back
as anybody bothering to understand the how and why (of anything)
Cool as an easy smile, or the friend who can make you laugh out loud at yourself.
Cool as I feel right now.
Cool as you reading this poem.
You are so cool. (Just so you know.)

I never wanted
To hurt you
To leave you
I never wanted
Things to change
For anything to be different
I only wanted
