You betcha! Of course they should be. Why would you want to vote for them in the first place if you didn't think they should have a higher moral standard than the average person? After all, they are representing you.

Of course when you look at the politicians we have today you begin to wonder what the heck were you thinking when you voted for the fools we have in office today? Were you asleep when you voted, did you not care, were you not paying attention or were you lied to, as usual, by these so called public servants?

Don't you think it is about time that our public servants, our politicians; those we elect to represent us, we the people, have some personal integrity for a change? Is that asking too much of them?

Is it too much for us to ask that they abide by the same rules and laws we do? Why should they get a hall pass and we don't?

They represent us, not themselves, and not only should we expect them to have higher moral standards but we should demand that they do. It should not be debatable. We should expect anyone who wants to represent us on either a local, state or federal level to be a person of unquestionable integrity and honesty. It is the very least they owe us for the privilege of our vote. It is up to them to actually earn our vote not assume it.

Too long have we routinely returned the same ilk to our legislative bodies. No wonder there is corruption, self serving earmarks and pork barrel projects that do not benefit this Country as a whole. These people have no personal standards, it is all what is in it for them. They ignore us, we the people. They are so totally out of touch with what, we the people want, that they do whatever they please and are seldom held accountable. We are the ones who must hold them accountabel. We are the only ones who can or they will continue on the same road. They don't seem to care. Right and wrong seem to have no place in their lives. They obviously will do anything they think they can get away with. They have proved this to us over and over again.

Yeah, I think it is time we held politicians to a higher moral standard, don't you? If they are going to represent us I want them to look out for us, not themselves. I want them to do what is best for the USA first and then worry about what their District or Community needs next. I want them to put our Country back in order first and then we can worry about funding bridges to nowhere.

I don't want a politician whose only concern is getting reelected. I want a politician who can look us in the eye and say 'I did the best I could, for you." I want a politician with high moral standards. Am I asking too much? Are we asking too much that our politicians have some integrity? Is it really that hard for them to live with high moral standards?

And who are we to expect our politicians to have a higher moral standard than the average person? Well, we are us. We are the "people". We are the citizens they represent. We are the ones who have to live under and by the rules they make. Yet seldom do they live under the same rules. Isn't it about time they did too? A moral politician doesn't make rules he or she isn't willing to live under too.

Our leaders have to have a higher moral standard as they are the standard we look to, they are the standard our children look to, they are the standard that other countries look to. They absolutely must be of high moral character to deserve our vote.

It is time we dictate to them how they should act.
