Alternative therapies for arthritis

Created on: March 21, 2009

Emu oil has been discovered as a safe alternative treatment for arthritis, yet most arthritis patients have yet to discover it for themselves. Aborigines have no arthritis and researchers attribute it to their use of emu oil. Its benefits and effectiveness for sufferers of arthritis pain and inflammation continue to be studied. Meanwhile, sports trainers in the US and Europe are already using it.

STUDIES AND RESEARCH

Emu oil has been extensively studied by Dr. Peter Ghosh, an authority on arthritis at Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital. He found that within 2 weeks of regular applications of emu oil to the affected site, the patients experienced 100% relief of their pain, inflammation and swelling. A study is currently being conducted in the US by Dr. Thorne Leahey who has seen the benefits of emu oil while treating his own patients.

EMU OIL HAS NO SIDE EFFECTS

Emu oil has no known side effects and even at full strength does not cause irritation. Researchers have not seen any side effects or allergic reactions even when the oil is taken orally in capsules. This should be good news to arthritis patients who currently must decide if the benefits of current medicines outweigh the side effects which include stomach irritation, skin irritation and burns, irritated blood vessels from injections and the eventual reality that the drug will stop working.

EMU OIL BENEFITS ARTHRITIS SUFFERERS

Emu oil contains high levels of linoleic acid which eases pain and oleic acid which is an anti-inflammatory agent. Together they reduce stiffness and inflammation and ease pain. It works best where the joints are close to the skin surface, such as in the hands, feet, knees and elbows. Studies show it also reduces superficial muscle pain and bruising and can benefit sports related injuries and strains.

EMU OIL IS PENETRATING

Emu oil penetrates the skin easily due to its non-phosphorus nature and can quickly deliver its healing compounds to muscle tissue and other parts of the body. When applied the oil quickly penetrates, leaving no oily residue nor clogged pores.

EMU OIL - OTHER BENEFITS

The oil contains Vitamins E and A, both which contain anti-oxidants for healing and repair. Emu oil is also used as a skin softener and anti-wrinkle cream due to the oleic acid it contains. It is also antiseptic and will not promote the growth of bacteria.

While researchers are isolating the compound in emu oil that works on the pain and inflammation of arthritis, the natural oil itself is currently available in stores and on the Internet. It's safe, it's cheaper than prescription drugs, and it works.
