Humor: Life lessons learned from dogs

I don't care what breed of dog you have or the size of the dog. Dogs can bring a lot of humor into any person or family's life. I have grown up with pets in the house my whole life. We have had lots of dogs, a rabbit, and several cats so I do know a thing or two about pets in general. Now that I've been married seven years my husband and I have two yellow labs that are anything but ordinary. It didn't take me long to figure out that they like to pretend they are small when they know they really are not. We have both a male and female and the male is almost six years old. He weighs about eighty pounds and loves to sit in a chair with you. He prefers to sit almost on top of you. They like to be as close to their owners as they can. I have learned from this chair experience how much they really value their owners and how truly needy they are.

If he has not been ran down the sidewalk with the tennis ball or taken for a walk he will run away. Granted we have a small house but he gets plenty of exercise. He can't seem to get enough though. We have an alley not far from the house and he has seemed to take liking to it because when he has not been out with the tennis ball or walked he will venture down to the alley. I guess that is his way of telling us that he needs more attention. He thinks he has to be the center of our whole universe. Dogs really bring to the owners mind that they are part of the family or they want to be. They want to feel included and loved just as much as we humans do.

My female yellow lab is no exception to any rule. She thinks that it's her God given right to sit in the doorway of the bathroom when my husband or I are using the toilet. When my husband takes a bath she again has to be right there with him sitting on the floor. I find this toilet thing very gross but from a lot of lab owners they say it can be common. I guess it just goes back to the needy thing. They want to feel needed in every aspect. When it's night time and my husband and I head downstairs to watch television, the male will go get into his chair and then tip his head to the side and give you almost those Bassett hound eyes where they are sad and almost weepy looking. He wants you to feel sorry for him and there is no way on earth that I will because he is so not deprived. Then there is the younger, female yellow that gets her few brief moments of energy and will go sprinting around the basement. She will try and get the other dog hyper but sometimes it doesn't work and then she just runs around looking stupid for a little while and finely gives up and finds somewhere to lay.

These dogs are such a great match for our house because they bring a lot of laughter to our house. Dogs are more then just dogs. If you have ever seen the movie Marley and me you'll understand what I mean by a very crazy dog. Not all dogs are that bad but they should add some excitement and laughter into your home to keep you healthy for years to come.
