same for me. We all go to different churches but if there is food left over from dinners we bring it home to share with the neighbors rather than let it become trash. One neighbor makes delicious peach cobbler but she always makes a few extras to share. I do the same with candy and another does it with beans or spaghetti.
Sometimes you just have to get a little creative to help. A friend of my mom's owns a construction company. After a snowfall he gets his heavy equipment out and clears all the driveways in the homes near his business and the road to the main street. He doesn't charge a dime. Whenever someone offers to pay him he just tells them he does it to keep everything clear for his employees to get in and out or turned around. We all know better. He's done this for over 30 years. A neighbor knows my husband hates cutting the grass on the front lawn because he has to use a weed eater the lawn is so small. So whenever she does her mom's yard she does ours. She's been doing this without being asked to or accepting pay for it since she was 13 years old.
The ways you can help others without making them feel obligated are numerous. All it takes is a giving spirit and a willingness to think outside the box. Sometimes the best part of giving to someone in need is knowing a secret no one else knows about. That in itself can be a reward.
