If you are travelling around Australia and you happen to like a little of the supernatural side of life - then you should visit some of the most haunted places in Australia. Australia is a relatively young country and it does not have numerous haunted sites. Yet the ones we do have are great to visit if you like having the googlies scared out of you. Wrap up well for a side trip or two because you know how cold graveyards can be and we will take a look at a few of Australia's most haunted places.

1.Rookwood Cemetery - Sydney, Australia

Rookwood Cemetery in Sydney was officially named The Necropolis and is the largest multicultural necropolis in the Southern Hemisphere. The name Rookwood emerged 20 years after the establishment of the necropolis. It was how they differentiated the local village of Haslams Creek from the association of the burial ground. The village changed its name to Rookwood and naturally the cemetery was also known as Rookwood. Although the village changed its name again in the early 20th Century to Lidcombe the cemetery kept the name.
About one million people have their final resting place within it's boundaries but it is the grave of the notorious Davenport Brothers, famous spiritualists that sets it apart. Go and visit their grave on a dark and stormy night and who knows what you might see.....

2.The Old Melbourne Gaol - Melbourne Australia

Not only the famous Australian outlaw Ned Kelly's ghost roams the corridors of the Old Melbourne Gaol. There are dead women crying for help and footsteps echoing in places there should not be footsteps. Not anymore anyway.
The gaol was built in 1840 and is the oldest prison in the state of Victoria . 136 people were hanged there over a period of 100 years including our famous Ned Kelly whose last words were, "Such is life." The Old Melbourne Gaol has attracted the attention of people from all over the world that are interested in the paranormal. One team spent a night in the building, taking photos and making recordings. One of the tapes captured the sound of a female calling for help. Some research showed that a woman in that cell block named Lucy R, had committed suicide on the 21st of June, 1865. The very date in 2003 that the parapsychologists had spent overnight in the gaol.

3.Fremantle Prison Western Australia

Speaking of spooky prisons, Fremantle Prison is one of Australia's most haunted places and it has a rich and varied history. It was used as a prison for almost 150 years and the inmates included
