What can be done to address the issue of climate change?

In order to determine what can be done to address climate change, the cause and severity has to be determined. Scientists and researchers are going all out in an attempt to discover how fast climate change is happening. The latest IPCC report was disturbing to say the lease, but a number of scientists strongly believe conditions are even worse than the report stated.

Since the next Nations Climate Change Conference is to be held in Copenhagen some time in December, a number of scientists are scrambling for provable facts. Many experts who have studied the whether and climate for years are combing Antarctica with the hope of discovering evidence that the situation isn't as dire as predicted. However, many of them are in full agreement that the situation actually looks worse.

Presently, There are three British explorers putting their lives in danger to measure the melting ice in Antarctica, enduring temperatures as low as 40 degrees below zero. Taking measurements along the way, the three-month, 621-mile journey will hopefully lead them to the North Pole.

The alarming outlook of the Arctic ice cap melting much faster, possibly leading to a vivid shift in temperatures worldwide, is what precipitated the long trek across this frozen wilderness. There has been more sea ice lost in the last few years than ever before in history and it is imperative that we learn just how bad it really is.

Submarines and satellites gather general data, but it's just not good enough. If the ice is indeed melting faster than predicted, time is a luxury we simply cannot afford. These three brave souls are getting to their knees and drilling holes to get exact thickness measurements.

When ice melts or even thins, sunlight penetrates it. Consequently, the ocean warms, speeding up climate change. Therefore, measuring ice thickness is one of their primary goals and in subzero temperatures, it isn't easy.

"People ask me how I keep going," the navigator of the three explorers said. "I don't know. I just have to, because if I don't keep going, it all falls apart. You just have to grit your teeth and remember why you are out here and get on with it."

The long, hard journey ends some time in May. By December, the team should have all of their "ducks in a row" when they present their report. There are a number of followers keeping up with their journey on Twitter.

However, disturbing facts have been pouring in from other scientists concerning climate change. So far, the facts seem to indicate a much faster melting of ice across a much wider area.

Most of the melting sea ice was happening across the Arctic Peninsula, but now, west Antarctica is also melting. This is shocking, as the temperatures around west Antarctica have remained constant and even lower at times. Be that as it may, the ice in west Antarctica, according to satellite data, is indeed melting.

By December, scientists from around the world will meet with heads of state and policymakers to discuss what can be done to address the issue of climate change. The IPCC should release their report a few weeks later.

Currently, the sea levels are predicted to rise around five feet by the end of the century. On the other hand, if the glaciers and ice shelves are melting faster than predicted, the sea levels could rise much sooner and perhaps even higher than once thought.

Consider for a moment: What if the IPCC released a report saying they had positive proof that sea levels would rise more than five feet within the next few years? There would be massive loss of property as people living near the coasts or low-lying areas abandon their homes to search for homes on higher ground around the state or in neighboring states.

Within months, those who either have money or got there before those who refused at first to believe it would take every available house, trailer, and apartment. Millions would be homeless. What's more, if the sea ice was melting that fast, the oceans would heat significantly, causing catastrophic storms such as hurricanes and tsunamis. It would be a worldwide catastrophe.

Exaggerated? Perhaps. But until all of the facts are in, no one really knows what will happen, if anything at all. Even though it was a purely hypothetical situation, it is not completely out of the realm of possibility for the near future.

In the bible, Jesus Christ described a future time he referred to as the "beginning of sorrows," or "birth pangs," which He said would be a prelude to the Great Tribulation. He spoke of war and rumors of war, earthquakes, famine, and disease.

There have been more wars, earthquakes, famine, and disease in the last century than ever before in history. The Savior said it would get worse. A loaf of bread could cost as much as a day's wage. We are facing a worldwide economic disaster, which seems to get worse with each passing day.

John, in Revelation, heard an angel say, "touch not the oil and the wine," which are substances associated with the rich.

Nearly every headline today reveals another rich fat cat being given even more, while the common person is struggling just to provide food and a roof for his or her family.

Today, there is no such thing anymore as poor, middle class, and rich. You're dirt poor, barely getting by, ahead but struggling, or filthy rich. Furthermore, if we are indeed approaching the Great Tribulation, those of us in the first three categories will merge into poverty together, while the fat cats get even fatter.

America was a God-fearing nation until 1963 when God the Father was expelled from classrooms, campuses and public places. His name was forbidden to be mentioned, even on the grounds. America began to spiral downward from that point on.

What can be done to address climate change? Turn back to God. Accept the salvation; He has offered by His Son Jesus Christ and, "Not a hair of your head will perish."

The hypothetical situation mentioned before would be nothing compared to the things that Jesus said would someday come upon the whole world. He said to watch for the signs. Those of us who have been watching can plainly see them all around us- war and threat of war, famine, disease, and earthquakes.

"And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken." (Luke 21)

Perhaps nothing can be done to address the issues of climate change at this point. And of course there is a chance that our climate will simply correct itself and level off. Nevertheless, climate change is not the only problem we are facing today.

Jesus Christ is coming back to claim what belongs to Him. Do you belong to Him?

"Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty (Rev.1:7)
