Gov. Quinn is a Democrat. They like to raise taxes on the good people who earn enough not to get welfare but not enough to move money off-shore to avoid annoying taxes. Now Republicans are fans of corporate welfare but reduction in taxes and welfare for poor folks. The governor of Illinois is following what has been the mantra of his party for decades. Raise taxes and spend, spend, spend. His own President (and mine, I guess) is a real fan of this idea in that not only are we helping those who are unemployed but also those who did not get their multi-million dollar bonus last year because they made very poor decisions when it came to lending and investing.
Quinn, Obama, McCain, and many other recipients of special interest millions (bribes) are more than happy to tap the vast billions of income provided by the poor saps commonly known as 'middle class.' Therefore, it is not fair to single out poor Pat. He is merely following the tried and true method for using government as the poor and rich classes get out of stupid decisions card. The cold hard fact is we as a class of voters must raise hell with the people in the legislative branch who can influence whether or not such a plan becomes law.
The beauty of our representative democracy is we are ultimately responsible for what happens to us. If we let special interest groups spend money to purchase policy then we are at fault when elected leaders listen to money instead of those they represent. I know, pisses me off to! We elected the bonehead who was impeached and also the bonehead who replaced him. Yes, those who voted for change have so far seen Bush Junior policies being presented by a new president who seems more eloquent than the former but not really much for new ideas or 'change' so far. Again, a majority of us voted for these guys so if things don't work out we must keep this in mind the next time the polls open.
I don't really mind if a politician increases taxes as long as we all share the load. Likewise the money raised helps us all and not a select group that through their own stupidity are suffering. Sorry when individuals do stupid things it is NOT right for responsible (non stupid) people to bail them out.
Truly why give stupid people more money to continue being stupid? Buy more house than you can afford? Loan out my money on risky ventures? Raise my taxes to bail out people who will not learn unless their stupid actions cause them some real sacrifice and pain? No thanks Pat, Barak, and anyone else who is not affected by this economic crisis one bit, how about we let natural consequences teach lessons instead of rewarding people and business for failure. Heck, I sure wish I worked for AIG, millions in a bail out which means the tax payers are paying my bonus for failure.
Taxes and raising them are a remedy for weak leaders. This nation survived for more than a century WITHOUT income taxes, how about exploring other options that don't further burden those of us smart enough not to get ourselves in a critical fix? How is it logical to reward failure and punish success? Pat do me a favor and tap into some of that dirty money that put crooks in office to help the state out with its finance woes.
