While she patiently waits by the door, she sits with anticipation finding it hard to sit still. Looking out the window peaking through the curtains from time to time she waits. Pacing the floor off and on nervously, she waits. She accidentally broke his favorite mug, and worries he will be angry, but hopes he will not notice. With excitement, she quietly waits and wonders why he's late. Slowly darkness fills the room as she snuggles in his chair unable to sleep she hears every sound hoping it will be him. The night is still and lonely as her concern begins to grow. He had never left her alone this long before; she doesn't understand why he is not home. Night turns into day and still she is alone. She's sure he wouldn't leave her. Yet again darkness comes, and she is still alone. She fell into a fitful sleep when the sound of keys jingling at the door slowly waking her. In her heart, she knew it wasn't he.

As the door opened, she sees a familiar face. It was Kevin's sister Sherri. As Sherri leans down, to hug her neck she could barely speak, "What are we going to do? My brother loved you very much." With tears in her eyes and a shaky voice Sherri continued, "Kevin died last night. He was in an accident on his way home. His truck was found today, he's gone now Sassy, what are we going to do?" Sherri had to pause, still choking back her tears.

Finally, Sherri composed herself and began again, "I talked to Kevin before he passed away. Sassy, he loved you and I promised him you would always have a home. You know the boys and I love you and we will take care of you, I know you love us too. We will all miss Kevin and I am grateful you will be part of our family." Sassy sat worrying and wondered what happened to Kevin.

Sherri left the room and started packing boxes and taking things that never left the house. Sassy was confused as she watched Kevin's sister move around the house gathering many of Kevin's and her things packing boxes and cleaning the mess she made while Kevin was away. She appeared in the doorway and as she put Sassy's leash around her neck Sherri said, "We are taking you to your new home I know you will miss Kevin, we all will, but we will all be strong and happy together, and we will never forget my brother. As Sherri and Sassy left the house, Sassy didn't realize she would never see her master again. Sherri drove away while Sassy sadly watched out the car window as her home faded from sight.
