What do I think about George Bush's politics?
Like most Americans, I think they're horrible. But I didn't vote him into office in 2000, or 2004 for that matter. Democratic Senator John F. Kerry got my vote. He had a much stronger domestic agenda, and wasn't prone to keeping the attention focused on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. However, George W. is constantly playing the war card because he knows we are still haunted by the images of 9-11.
And that's s shame. My heart cries out for the people who lost loved ones on this day, but when all is said and done, there is nothing we can do to bring them back. All we can do is pray for those individuals they left behind, hoping that their thirst for retribution is quenched by their desire for world peace.
Hurricane Katrina claimed lives in a similar fashion, but all George W. and his administration has provided are sound bites and broken promises. Did you notice that he didn't even mention how the rebuilding of New Orleans was going in his recent State of the Union address. This omission should leave a bad taste in the mouths of most Americans, but most definitely black Americans, because it shows how disorganized his priorities are.
Having a sense of safety and protection is on everyone's mind these days. 9-11 caused local, state and federal government agencies to become more vigilant in this area. But George W. doesn't believe the efforts on the home front are enough; that's why he requested that another 21,500 troops be sent to Iraq. That's 21,500 men and women who will be away from their families. That's 21,500 men and women who will be in harms way. And for what? For the liberation of a country that will continue to hate Americans and Israelis long after the United States has pulled all of its troops out of the region? I don't think so.
As an American Christian, I can see the value in maintaining presences in both Afghanistan and Iraq. We can give the Muslims there a better appreciation for Christianity and democracy. But the Islamic extremists don't want to hear it. They will continue to attack us and our interests both domestically and internationally, and all we can do is brace ourselves for the inevitable.
If you ask me (and I know you didn't), we need to slowly start pulling our troops out of the region. Nothing is being gained from us being there, but everything will be gained by returning our soldiers to their families. Sure, the American-inserted government will fall under attack by the extremists, but
