If you're a gamer, then you've probably wanted to download the full versions of games free over the Internet at one point or another. Perhaps it was because of a new game that you wanted, or you just wanted to test out an old game. Either way it should be noted that downloading commerical games over the Internet is illegal, depending on the game.

However there are older games, and freeware games that have been released for download free of charge by the companies that developed them. In the past, certain MMORPG's have been released part of their games for free so that gamers could try them out and possibily decide to purchase expansions for the game.

There are many websites out there that any type of gamer can download full versions from, and some are much more safer then others. Websites such as Download Free Games or Download.com actually check every download that comes onto their website with viruses. That being said, here is a list of some of the best places to download free games.

Download.com

While this websites doesn't have many full versions of games that people would see being sold commerically in stores, it does have full versions of certain older games and trail versions of many PC games. For example a person could visit the website and download a trial version of Halo for the PC free of charge.

Alternatively there are free games on the website such as Icy Tower that are quite impressive. These games are usually old or designed by it's developing team to be a free game that anyone can enjoy. Ultimately Download.com is one of the safest places to download games because they check each download for viruses.

Unlike Download.com, this website does have much more of a selection when it comes to free full versions of games. While they do have some game trials just like Download.com, Download-Free-Games.com has tons of free games for download. For example they have the popular first person shooter called America's Army up for download, free.

There are many other places on the internet to download free games, all you have to do is search Google for them. Even older PC games like Command & Conquer can be found free on the Internet if you just look hard enough. Try to stay away from programs called ROMs or Emulators.

Roms are back up copies of console video games that are illegal depending on where you live. However most of the time they are perfectly legal if you already own the game and backed up the file yourself. Emulators are programs used to play the roms for each console.

When downloading games free from websites, be sure to use your best judgement as to whether website is safe, or involved in illegal practices. If you see a PC game that you just saw at the store for around $50 bucks, thats a good sign that the website is involved in something very bad.
