Crucifixion was a humiliating way for a person to die, nailed to a tree and publicly paraded for all to see, this type of capital punishment was reserved for harden criminals, it deprived the guilty of their dignity and sends out a strong message to the lawless, essentially the Romans view this type of crucifixion as a more supple form of inducing the death sentence, normally they were more inclined to demand public executions be carried out swiftly.

Matthew 16:21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.

Having been betrayed by one of his own disciple, the arrest of Jesus was affected through the agency of an informer and traitor: Judas Iscariot sold Jesus out for a measly thirty pieces of silver, afterwards he felt remorseful and return the money which was understood to be the price of blood, and therefore it could not be accepted in the normal tithes and offerings chest, consequently the field of blood was then purchase with the betrayers dirty money.

All the other disciples had forsaken Jesus, and he was left alone to bear the transgression of the cursed, having committed no crime which was worthy of crucifixion, he took upon himself the sins of the world, and was led as a lamb to the slaughter. Death by crucifixion was slow and excruciatingly painful, the final moments leading up to death would be reached in a matter of hours or possibly days, depending on the health of the person, the crucifixion will of course have been preceded by heavy scourging.

Matthew 27:22

Pilate saith unto them, what shall I do then with Jesus who is called Christ? They all say unto him, let him be crucified.

The prophets had of course prophesied about the sacrificial event which Jesus would accomplish, and the Jewish religious authorities had accepted that one man would die for the freedom of the nation. Prophetic utterance was given through the book of Psalms and Isaiah, and those who were under the similitude of death, waited for the coming messiah to release their soul from bondage.

Caiaphas was the high priest advising the religious council that it was better to have one man die for the people, rather than a whole nation been put to the sword, he spoke prophetically, although at the time he did not quiet know the extent of what he was saying John 18:14

Not many innocent will die on radical grounds; scarcely for a righteous man will
