Where writers find inspiration

As a writer, have you ever had one of those days, where you do not want to do anything? You do not want to write, or search for jobs, or even think about writing?

But you call yourself a writer, right? And we all know, if writers don't write, they don't get paid.

So where in the world, do writers find the "inspiration" to write during those times, when they would rather sleep, or flip burgers, or do just about anything else?

Well hopefully, this article will enlighten you about that. When you feel like you don't want to write, please try to remember these three things.

You Have Something To Say

We have all heard it time and time again, but you really do have something to say to the world. Whether you can share a story in a funny or heart warming way, or perhaps you can use words to inspire people to donate to a cause, sometimes only you can say it.

Think about your favorite author, columnist, or greeting card. Think about how the words were put together, how each writer added their own voice and character to the piece. In your writing, you should do that too.

Could James Patterson have written "Pride and Prejudice?" Probably. But would it have had nearly the impact that Jane Austen gave it? Certainly not.

As was mentioned before, sometimes only you, in all of your uniqueness can write it.

It's Not Always About You

By now you might be saying, "oh how cheesy was that?" Really? ( then you'll probably want to stop reading now) What about this though, contrary to what we thought in kindergarten, the world doesn't really revolve around us.

Meaning, sometimes you need to write, not for you, but for others.

Maybe you should write that children's book that you've been putting off, not for you, but so your grand kids can read it. Or maybe, you should query or submit those articles, not for you, but so your family can pay the bills.

Sometimes, if we take ourselves out of the picture and write for others, we find that fulfillment we were searching for.

Writing can change lives

"Now that's a bit much", you say. But think about it, what was the last thing you heard or saw that inspired you? Was it a speech, a book, a story on the internet, a TV show? All these things were brought to life by writers.

Remember all of the great writers that have changed your life, and challenged you to be a better person, parent, spouse, child or whatever. Do you have a lesson that you could be teaching others? Write it down.

Write so future generations can read, and feel the challenge that comes with inspiration, and the joy of having answered its call.

Writing is so much more than string along pretty words. If used corectly, it really can change lives.

The next time you just "don't want to write", bear in mind that you have something to tell the world that they are longing to hear. Oh yes, and also remember those five little words: it's not always about you.
