Fired: Turning the negative into a positive

Being fired, laid off, or losing your job for whatever reason, is never a pleasant experience. Becoming more positive in that situation may seem unlikely, but it is possible, and preferable, to gain a positive outlook at such a time.

There may be some feeling of relief on leaving a job that was causing stress or distress. There will also be negative thoughts about facing financial difficulties, and fear of not being able to find an alternative source of income.

The first step after losing a job will be to apply for any benefits you may be entitled to receive, or to seek some form of financial compensation. Not everyone who has lost their job will qualify for an immediate payout. It depends largely on individual circumstances.

You can discover ways to cut down on spending by assessing your previous lifestyle. You will probably find many personal expenses are not really essential, and can easily be stopped. Focus on paying household bills, on reducing debts, and on preventing further debt.

You may simply want to take any job you can to start earning money. Even the most dreary or menial work will provide you with an income. Do not think of it as a permanent solution, just use the time spent working in that job to look for a better alternative.

Before starting a new job search, the best way to think about your situation is to take a positive view of it. Think of it as a wonderful opportunity to start a better way of life. Be grateful for the opportunity, and then start thinking of all the possibilities open to you.

Practical Ways to Be More Positive About Your Future:

If you have received a lump sum of money, or have savings invested, now is a good time to think how best that money can be used. It could sustain you until you find the right occupation, or get a job that will suit you.

If you have never before considered self employment, or thought of any money making activities you could do on your own, now is the time to think about it.

Even with no money, you still have the option to start your own business, or find an alternative to working for someone else. If you have any creative or practical skills, you can learn more about setting up in business for yourself. You may be able to get a start-up grant, loan or other financial assistance when you do this.

If you have no skills, and feel you have no useful knowledge, or lack the ability to earn money for yourself, you should consider retraining, or enrolling for further education. You may qualify for a grant or financial support during training or when taking a course.

Positive Ways to Prepare Yourself for a Better Future:

Stop worrying about what you no longer have, and try not to live in fear of things that may or may not actually happen.

Leave the past behind. Whatever caused you to be fired or lose your job is over now. It belongs in the past. You should learn from any failure that resulted from your actions, or mistakes you may have made. Now you can plan for the future, knowing you will never repeat your errors. This will give you a better chance of success in whatever you decide to do.

Remember that nothing in life is ever permanent. Losing your job was just the beginning of a chain of events that will form your future. Now you are removed from your previous work, you face a whole range of possibilities and opportunities for a better life ahead.

When you appreciate what life has to offer in the present, the past no longer matters, and the future is open to greater achievements and personal success. Even if you have been fired, you can turn the negative into a positive.
