As a resident of New York, I must admit that its hard to forget 9/11
I was not here in the city at the time - I was watching it from my couch in Sydney, but I think almost all of my friends knew someone lost to the horror of that day
But its very hard, almost impossible to imagine what New York went through unless you were here in that moment
Since that day New York was changed forever. For some there is not just negative emotion attached to the memory they have from 9/11 but there is some positive changes that people feel on the streets
People are closer, people are more tolerant, people stick together and look out for each other
There are many stories to tell and to be heard, each as important as the other. We are emotional beings and people deal with their emotions so differently. Some of us deal with our emotional issues quickly while others struggle to even start to make sense out of what has happened. I think the question being asked is almost ridiculous because emotions are strong yet they are changeable. It does however feel like the one emotion that will never change or grow weaker is the pride of this nation which really was strengthened because it was forced to. People that never would have held hands in the past, hold each other now and differences were no more. The only emotion that has actually strengthened thanks to Bush is HATE for the Muslin world, which comes from much ignorance. An entire country is not to be blamed for 10% of their population being crazy, psycho loonies. Its not fair really to resent all its people, or may as well be considered capital punishment don't you think?
New York is an amazing place to live that I wouldnt trade for the world, I consider myself lucky to be able to live here. It oozes character and integrity and has seen many many changes in her time. Some good, some god damm awful...... Its not to say that something terrible has to happen for good to come out of it, but it seems that spirit guides us there, if we are willing to go. I often look at the Manhattan skyline from my rooftop in Chinatown and try to imagine what the World Towers would have looked like standing there in all their glory and it makes me remember that things can change so quickly and in ways you can not imagine possible until you see it with your own eyes and live to tell. So really if we are speculating if emotional impact is still strong? Just who are we asking? Why not ask the lady who was just walking by and saw it all, for her answer will be raw and real and one worth listening to.
