It looks as though movie tickets are becoming more expensive. Everything else has gone up, why not the movie tickets. Every time I go to the theater it makes me feel bad just to see my money dwindling away just to see an hour and a half movie with a lot of previews and even commercials sometimes. When I go to the theater they usually try to talk me into getting a medium drink which the employees insist is usually not much more in price than the small drink. I don't drink a lot of soft drinks and my hands are small so I prefer holding a smaller cup. I'm already paying a ton of money for my ticket anyway so why get excited holding a jug of a drink that I can barely grasp.
Years ago the theater was a great place to bring a date. I feel bad for young couples now that have to spend so much money just to enjoy a little entertainment together. Regal does have a good program with a free discount card and if they scan it, once in a while you acquire enough points get a free small popcorn, a small drink, or a free movie ticket. Even so, many people now probably prefer to do something else like watch DVD's and sit in the comfort of their own home where the food is a lot cheaper and the price of DVD rentals are less than a movie ticket.
I know that it's not good to live in the past but I have to say that one of the great things about yesteryear was going to the movies and if you liked what was playing well enough you could sit through many more showings for free. The down side is that there were no DVD's then and modern technology is also awesome.
A preview of a movie has to look pretty good before I will spend the money to see it. Unfortunately, the previews can sometimes be better than the movie itself whoever puts the previews together have real talent in picking out the most enticing parts of the film to lure you in. When you finally watch the much desired flick it can be a disappointment.
There are other choices these days for paying lower ticket prices and that would be the theaters that show the movies that are just about to go to DVD or maybe already are out on DVD. My family and I love to go to an old theater in our area where they play movies cheaper. The theater has been around for years and is beautiful and takes you back in time when the theaters had balconys. At Christmas time a man plays the organ before the movie begins and the words to the songs are on the movie screen and everyone is invited to sing along. It's a great time for a fraction of the money.
