How can a computer not be at least a little frustrating even if they work perfectly? If the hardware works all it takes is a software problem, and if everything works, the viruses, spyware, and useless junk that slows a computer takes everything that was good and makes it useless until the problem is fixed. As far as complex machinery goes, computers take it to the next level of frustration!
Setting aside computer problems for the moment, even a perfectly working and protected system does not cure the complexities involved. Unless a user devotes their time an efforts solely to the solitaire game (which can be frustrating in its own right) they have to interact with a whole slew of variety in programs that they must know the full ins and outs of in order to remain perfectly sane. It isn't an over-statement to say that all the added systems for entertainment in the form of games, movies, sound files, and a whole multitude of other applications, doesn't add a touch of frustration to the novice user. Even a minor codec or online streaming problem can make the whole attempt useless, and even worse are the programs used to aid businesses and track data. This isn't forgetting that in the absence of a backup battery a minor power flicker can destroy countless files and hours of hard work unless there is a recovery system.
So what of viruses or software glitches? Everyday some punk from a different part of the globe tries their hands at becoming the next aggravation of the modern era and creates a new form of mayhem that virus software can't keep up with or defend against. These malicious programs can also infiltrate a system and send grant access to an outsider by giving a remote machine full control of your personal information. It doesn't matter what is compromised in the end, what matters is that it is an unwanted factor that impedes other ventures and takes important time to fix or get rid of the problem. And if the solution to any difficulty isn't readily provided with your system, it costs money to fix. There isn't a greater provocation than something that disrupts and costs money, and software errors and computer freezes can have similar consequences.
Finally there are the hardware issues inside and outside the computer. Whether it is the sound card, video card, TV card, hard drive, and fan within the tower, or the speakers, mouse, modem, and monitor on the outside; there are a fair number of components that could go wrong or breakdown completely. Most typical computer horror stories focus around the internal drives, but don't exclude visual and audio problems as well. Nothing spells frustration better than a problem that didn't exist the day before, and the computer is just a time bomb waiting for the worse possible moment. Without a readily existing back up or reserve, most people just have to hope for the best and cope as best they can.
