Comparing writing for Helium and blogging

Helium and blogging are different in many ways. They both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Helium is a place where people can get together, critique each other's work and discuss. One person usually writes a blog and everyone else can only comment on a blog. On Helium everyone has the ability to write, but on a blog only the person with access to the blog can write.

Helium is an article database. Blog is a single person's database. Helium has many different topics and is a huge database of articles. Most bloggers write only about one topic on their blog, which is known as their niche. Helium has many different niches, but Bloggers only have a couple.

When you write for Helium, you get 50% revenue share, but on a blog you get to keep 100% of the revenue you make. This is one of the main advantages of a blog. However, Helium does guarantee upfront payments, which you need to work hard for.

A blog is something that you have to market yourself and you have to make sure that people visit it. Helium is already a well-established site which has lots of traffic which means you are guaranteed some money if you write.

On a blog you will not be able to directly sell your articles to publishers. On Helium publishers come looking for great articles and they purchase them. You can leave your article on Helium, and someone may buy it, but on a blog your article cannot be purchased unless a publisher happens to be visiting it, which is rare.

When you are blogging, you earn money through ads, affiliate marketing, selling products, etc. But when you are on Helium Helium is solely paying you. Helium and publishers decide what to pay you, and you cannot argue with them. When you are blogging you can request for higher payments from marketers, and make money through a lot of different ways.

On Helium making small amounts of money is easy. A blogger cannot make small amounts of money with ease and there are lots of difficulties. When you write for Helium, your work also gains recognition faster than a blog.

You can choose from a lot of different channels on Helium and you are limited to writing to those channels only. On a blog you can write about anything you want to. As a blogger you will have more freedom to write than as a Helium writer.

Helium has writing standards and may delete your article, but a blog never gets deleted for its writing. However, some blog hosts also have standards that relate to having appropriate content. You can afford to make a lot of mistakes on the blog and never get caught, but on Helium you will get an e-mail tell you that you need to fix your article.

As you can see, Helium and blogging are quite different. For part-time writers Helium is a much better opportunity to make money and write.
