As a writer, you are never done learning how to improve on your skills. It takes a lifetime to learn everything there is to know about it. Even then you don't know it all. There are many avenues you can take to improve upon what you may already see as perfect. Here a guide to help you improve your writing skills no matter what level you are at right now:
Take Courses
This is the easiest and most obvious way you can gain more knowledge about writing. Many community colleges offer courses in writing as well as online opportunities. These courses can be as simple as effective letter writing to as complicated as novel writing. They may also include grammar courses as well. These will allow you to brush up on your possibly rusty grammar to bring it up to par.
Listen to Your Peers
Other writers are more than willing to share with you their thoughts and ideas about writing. Although styles vary greatly, love for the written word does not. You will learn a great deal by taking suggestions from them without taking it as a personal affront.
Practice
They say practice makes perfect and if that is true many writers would certainly be well beyond the perfection. Use sites like Helium.com and AssociatedContent.com to practice your skills. You will get great writing experience and feedback from your readers. Writing isn't about being perfect. It's about loving what you do. If you love it, you will surely learn everything possible about it. You will find that reaching the reader is the most important aspect. It's not how many big words you can use. It's about how many people will understand them and want to read it again.
Read
Read novels and biographies or anything else that your heart desires. See the techniques that other great writers have used to reach the audience. Note those things that you really enjoyed and things that you think you may have left out if you had penned the words. You can gain a great deal of insight into the world of writing if you pay close attention to what you read.
Cross Thoughts
Give your thoughts on writing to others. Allow them to add to the discussion their thoughts. Mix those thoughts together and take out the things that don't stick. You will have learned something and so will the other people involved in the discussion. Crossing thoughts one over the other can give you a great spectrum of ideas with which to work.
Writing is for those dedicated to the idea that the brain should attract as much information as possible in it's lifetime. The love of the written word comes from the soul. A writer is soothed as they pen their thoughts onto paper. Since writers love information and knowledge of it, it shouldn't be too difficult to learn more about what they love the most.
